I had good intentions to have February’s self portrait x12 photo to be one with my boys in it since I did last month’s with my sweet girl Teagan. However, the time got away from me and in a mad dash to get this month’s done, I decided on the dreaded self portrait. No kids to hide behind, no real theme or fun props to divert my attention, just me smack dab in the photo. Still having a really hard time with this idea of being in front of the camera, but I know this project is good for me and I know that years from now I will treasure these images with me in them.
I set up my tripod, propped up my reflector, got my self timer ready, tried to determine where my focal point will be and proceeded to be click happy. The first 15 were a tad bit underexposed, then next 20 were out of focus, and the next 30 something were cutting off my head. Uh, yea…. I think I took almost 70 photos and I only had 3 that somewhat turned out. I’ve got to get better at this self portrait type stuff if I’m going to be continuing this for the next year. I thought for a brief second to ask Teagan (who is all of 5 years old) to come help me, but the thought of trying to explain the steps for getting me in focus were just too exhausting. So here is what I have, not nearly as tack sharp as I wanted (at 100% crop, the focus falls slightly behind me) even with my aperture closed down. Oh well, better luck next month which I pinkie swear will have my boys in it. 🙂
